Operators know exactly for their area of responsibility the problems and bottle necks of the MAterial Handling Systems installed within their plant.  But all these single experiences have not been centralized and documented.

Therefore the TEC specialists will specify within this first step together with operating personal for all material flows of raw materials, products, by products, wastes (like sludge, dust, scale, etc.) and slag with starting and end point, transportation route, respective storage areas, transport facilities and specific material consumptions. The outcome of this first step will be a complete documentation of all material flows within the plant and also all transportation routes will be visualized and the critical transportations routes and intersections will be detected and highlighted.

In case the plant should be

• Extended
• New production facilities shall be added
• The productivity should be increased

The results of the fact finding will be documented in a table showing the following information:

• Start and end point of the transport
• Material
• Transport unit and size
• Transport frequency per day and hour (peak and average)
• Operating days/year

For the material flows which have been detected as critical, different approaches will be developed, which could be for example:

• Rerouting of material flows
• Centralizing of storage facilities
• Hub storage and distribution facilities
• Additional process steps like scrap, slag preparation, etc.
• Rearranging of parking areas
• Rearranging of unloading facilities and/or procedures
• Preperation of educated offer for various scenarios and industries
